Suzuki SamuraiCompact Suzuki Samurai SUVs were produced from 1986 until 1998. Assembly was made at factories in Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Kenya, Spain, and in Colombia.
Suzuki Samurai generation IThe presentation of Suzuki Samurai was held at the Detroit Motor Show in 1985. At the beginning of the next year, the serial model became available for sale. Some cars were produced with soft-top stretched on a frame made of strong steel tubes. Cars with the wheelbase 2,030 mm and 2,375 mm long were available.
Suzuki Samurai inherited leaf sprung suspension from its predecessors. Thanks to the pneumatic shock absorbers, driving comfort of the car increased greatly. The front wheels were fitted with disc brakes, and rear wheels - with drum brakes.
A small trapezoid «Suzuki Samurai» punching was made on the hood. The car had big round headlights, between which there was a wide radiator grill with the company logo in the center.
Turn indicators were integrated into the front bumper. In some countries, the car was sold with massive bull bars. Tail lights consisted of two small rectangular units integrated into the bumper.
In 2007, Gonzalo Bravo and Canales Eduardo conquered the 6,688 meter high mount Ojos del Salado on the improved Suzuki Samurai. This achievement was officially entered into "the Guinness Book of Records".
Suzuki Samurai generation I restyledIn 1988, the car got new ergonomic seats, an upgraded instrument panel, and an improved soft suspension fitted with stabilizer bars. The manufacturer greatly improved the quality of Suzuki Samurai's interior.
In 1998, the car got new rounded bumpers and an updated radiator grill. A few months later, the model was officially discontinued.
Suzuki Samurai in the markets of various countriesIn the domestic market of Japan, and in some other countries, Suzuki Samurai was known as second generation Suzuki Jimny — Suzuki SJ 413. In Switzerland, the car was sold as Suzuki Sierra. In various countries, the car was known as Chevrolet Samurai, Holden Drover, Suzuki Potohar, Suzuki Katana, Suzuki Samurai Caribian, and Santana. In India, the car was sold as Maruti Gypsy.
Production of Suzuki Samurai in Spain was discontinued in 2003.
